I'm not getting push notifications

01What you're seeing

You expected a Hemma push notification — a morning digest or an instant alert — but nothing arrived.

02What you're seeing

You expected a Hemma push notification — a morning digest or an instant alert — but nothing arrived.

03Most likely cause — browser permission is blocked or not granted

Push notifications require explicit browser permission. If you declined the prompt or never granted it, Hemma cannot reach you.

Fix:

  1. Go to Settings → Notifications in Hemma.
  2. Toggle on Instant notifications or Morning digest.
  3. When the browser prompt appears, click Allow.

If the prompt does not appear because you previously blocked it, see turning on browser notifications for browser-specific reset steps.

04Other things to check

  1. Hemma preferences are off — go to Settings → Notifications and confirm both toggles are on. Even with browser permission granted, Hemma respects your preference settings. If Instant notifications is off, no alerts fire. If Morning digest is off, no daily summary.

  2. OS or phone notification settings block the browser — on iOS, macOS, and Windows, the operating system has its own notification permission layer on top of the browser. If the OS has notifications disabled for the browser, push notifications cannot reach you.

    • iPhone/iPad: Settings → [Your browser] → Notifications → Allow.
    • Mac: System Settings → Notifications → [Your browser] → Allow.
    • Windows: Settings → System → Notifications → [Your browser] → On.
  3. Focus mode, Do Not Disturb, or Battery Saver — these OS modes suppress notifications. Check whether a focus mode is active on your device.

  4. You are using private/incognito mode — push notifications are not available in private browsing. Switch to a regular window.

  5. Browser or subscription expired — push subscriptions occasionally expire. To reset: go to Settings → Notifications, toggle notifications off, then on again. The browser re-registers your subscription.

  6. You are using an unsupported browser — push is supported in Chrome 50+, Firefox 48+, Edge 17+, and Safari 16+ (macOS and iOS). Very old browser versions do not support Web Push.
