Leaving or deleting a project

There are two ways to end your relationship with a project: leaving (you go, the project stays) and deleting (the project and everything in it is gone). The right one depends on whether other members are involved.

01Leaving a project

Leaving removes you from the project. Everyone else keeps access and everything continues as before — documents, budget, milestones, contractors, all intact.

If you are the last member, leaving deletes the project automatically. Hemma warns you before you confirm.

To leave:

  1. Go to Settings → Team.
  2. Click Leave project.
  3. Confirm in the dialog.

You are removed immediately and signed out of that project. You can be invited back later by another member.

02Deleting a project

Deleting removes the project and everything inside it permanently. Only the project owner can delete a project, and only when they are also the last member. If there are other members, remove them first or ask them to leave before you can delete.

To delete:

  1. Go to Settings → Danger zone.
  2. Click Delete project.
  3. Type the project name to confirm.
  4. Click Delete permanently.

03What gets deleted

When a project is deleted, Hemma removes permanently:

  • All documents and assets (invoices, quotes, plans, photos)
  • All messages and email threads
  • The project budget and all linked budget lines
  • Milestones, decisions, and phases
  • Team members, invites, and notification preferences
  • Connected integrations (Google Calendar, Dropbox, etc.)

Files already synced to your cloud storage provider are not deleted — they stay in your Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive folder.

04Common questions

I'm not the owner. Can I delete the project? No. Only the project owner can delete. You can leave, but the project stays for the remaining members.

Can I transfer ownership before deleting? Ownership transfer is not available yet. To delete a project you do not own, the owner needs to remove all other members first and then delete it themselves, or all other members need to leave first.

What happens to the project email address? When the project is deleted, the inbound email address is released. Emails sent to it will no longer be processed.

I deleted the project by mistake. There is no recovery. Reach out to hello@gethemma.app immediately — we may be able to help in the very short window after deletion, but this is not guaranteed.
