Turning on browser notifications

Hemma sends instant alerts and a morning digest straight to your browser or phone — but only after you grant notification permission. Here is how to do it in each major browser, and how to undo a previous "Block."

01Granting permission for the first time

  1. Open Hemma and go to Settings → Notifications.
  2. Toggle on Instant notifications or Morning digest.
  3. Your browser shows a permission prompt at the top of the screen asking whether to allow notifications from Hemma.
  4. Click Allow.

That is it. Hemma registers your device and starts delivering notifications.

02If you accidentally clicked "Block"

Browsers remember your choice. Once you block, Hemma cannot ask again — you have to reset it yourself.

Chrome and Edge

  1. Click the padlock icon (or ⚠ Not secure) in the address bar.
  2. Find Notifications in the site settings panel.
  3. Change it from Block to Ask (default) or Allow.
  4. Reload the page.

Firefox

  1. Click the shield or lock icon in the address bar.
  2. Click More Information → Permissions.
  3. Find Send Notifications and remove the Block entry.
  4. Reload.

Safari (macOS)

  1. Open Safari → Settings (or Preferences).
  2. Go to Websites → Notifications.
  3. Find Hemma in the list and change its setting to Allow.

Safari (iOS 16+)

  1. Open the iOS Settings app.
  2. Scroll to Safari → Notifications.
  3. Find Hemma and turn on Allow Notifications.

After resetting, return to Settings → Notifications in Hemma and toggle your preferences on — the permission prompt will appear again.

03Common questions

Do I need to repeat this on every device? Yes. Push notification permission is per browser per device. Enable it separately on your phone, laptop, and any other device you use Hemma from.

I allowed notifications but I'm still not getting any. Check that your preferences are actually turned on in Settings → Notifications, and that your device's own notification settings (iOS Settings, macOS System Settings, or Windows Settings) are not blocking the browser entirely.

Will Hemma send notifications even when I'm not on the site? Yes — push notifications are designed to reach you when the browser tab is closed or in the background. On mobile, your phone must have background app refresh enabled for the browser.

Can I get notifications on my phone if I'm using the web app? Yes. Open Hemma in your mobile browser, go to Settings → Notifications, and grant permission there. For the best experience, install Hemma on your phone first — the installed PWA handles push notifications like a native app.

04What if it goes wrong

  • Permission prompt never appeared: your browser may be in a private/incognito window (push is not available in private mode) or the browser version is too old. Use Chrome 50+, Firefox 48+, Edge 17+, or Safari 16+.
  • Notifications stop arriving after a few days: your browser subscription may have expired. Reset permission as above, then re-enable in Settings → Notifications.
